S4S – Study

Poor grades for the German school system: inefficient, outdated and far too inflexible to be able to support students individually – these are the main points of criticism from students, parents and teachers. At the same time, the desire for new, modern learning methods is growing. This is the result of a survey by borisgloger consulting in cooperation with the market research institute Innofact. For this study 1036 pupils, 500 parents and 261 teachers were asked for an assessment of the current school system and existing teaching methods.

Key findings

School is not efficient | Only 41 percent of teachers still consider the German school system efficient.

Lack of practical relevance and no promotion of individual interests | Not even a quarter of the surveyed students between the ages of 14 and 19 feel sufficiently prepared for the future and the working world by what they have learned. Only 41 percent also state that they are satisfied with the learning content they have learned, and only a minority of 25 percent feel that their individual strengths are sufficiently promoted. Also for the majority of the parents questioned, too little attention is paid to the individual student: Only just under 35 percent think that their child's individual strengths and potential are promoted at school.

High learning effort | About every third parent surveyed (31 percent) estimates the current learning effort that their own child has to cope with as high.

Pupils and teachers would like to see different teaching methods and forms | Three out of four teachers surveyed would like to use it in their lessons, so that they can adapt to the individual needs of the pupils But only one in four currently has the time to do so. More partner work (83 percent) and group work (76 percent) are among the preferred forms of teaching, which should be given more weight in future. Partner work is also a favorite among students, with around 76 percent of them choosing it as one of the desired formats of the future.
